Description

A-404, is the only entity from Section A that appears after A-399 (appears at A-404, hence the name). The entity has been removed from the game and in THE HISTORY gamemode has one state: which is angered. There also used to be another state, Docile, which bears different mechanics and is currently removed.

A-404 in its angered state was only present in glitched servers, in cases where either Section E did not generate past A-399 or if someone attempted to combine Section E and Section A together. If a player opens door 404 or attempted to do what's called the Æ Section glitch, the entity will spawn in, kicking all players in the server regardless of if anyone was hiding. If a player used exploits to avoid A-404. As of the 6th of April 2023, this state is no longer in the main game due to its mechanic being abused in public servers by exploiters.

A-404's docile state has the same spawn requirements as the angered state, although with an extra requirement, that being Section E appearing before it's supposed to. It remains stationary in the center of the room, directing players to join a new server. It does nothing but prevent players to go past it, and after 20 to 40 seconds, it will despawn. According to Zvardin, this state of A-404 is not meant to spawn, as it "is not supposed to happen". You can find its discovery here.

Appearance

A-404's angered state appeared as a big black hollow circle for a head (which is slightly more round than its docile state) with a D-shaped frowning mouth and big circle eyes, which seems to be supposed to look like the "D8" face. Its light color differed from its jumpscare, being a strong solid red color. There were giant particles around it that are static-like, and they look similar to Rush’s particles from DOORS. Said particles changed color from red to white.

A-404's docile state looks just like its angered state, with the only difference being that its mouth moves as it talks and it's says "This is a glitched server, please join a new one.". It's light color is blue. The static particles also seen on the anger state appear on the docile one, coming as a smaller, blue and white colored static. The mouth and eyes are also drawn slightly differently, the eyes being slightly smaller.

Strategy & Tips

  • There was no way to survive A-404's angered state other than the use of flying and/or anti-kick exploits.
  • For its docile state, its completely harmless, and hiding is not needed as the only other entity is E-1.

Notes

  • A-404 used to spawn when the Section Æ glitch happened.
  • When A-404 was in its angered state, if it failed to load on the current room (which should be A-404), it would infinitely retry every room after until the server was closed.
  • A-404 did not kick the player instantly after the jumpscare.
  • A-404's Angered state would have still killed you even if you are hiding.
  • A-404 had its face and head separated, moving to random positions and glitching out.
    • At the end of its jumpscare, it would swap its face and head between each other, multiple times before kicking the player.
  • A-404 was the first entity to have the ability to kick players, second being every entity in Section U before U-400.
  • A-404 is the second failsafe to be added, with the first being the Voidfall.
  • A-404 was the third non-event entity to get removed, the first two being A-221 and A-246.
  • A-404's docile state was discovered at May 1st.
  • A-404's docile state is able to "look" or move his face around as the head and face are separate images just like it's Angered State.
  • A-404 is one of the two entities that can appear in more than 1 Section even though there's an "A" in its name. The other entity that can appear in more than 1 section is John, which can appear in every Section (Except Section U) .
  • A-404 is the only entity that can appear before its room number, appearing at E-1 or A-400. (This is no longer true as A-150 can appear at A-149, see A-150 page for details)
  • A-404 was the fastest entity in the game.
  • A-404's jumpscare in its angered state would be randomized. This means that every time a player fell victim to it, its head and face positions and its jumpscare sound would be randomized each time and would most likely never look or sound identical to before.

Trivia

  • A-404's docile ambience was a robotic Text-To-Speech voice saying, "This is a glitched server, please join a new one.", which, in his angered state and jumpscare, sounded like glitched screaming.[4]
  • "404" inside of A-404 is the number normally used when an error happens on a website or when something doesn't exist.
  • ZvardinRB has said that he does not know that if A-404 will come back in the remaster for a different purpose.
  • Due to A-404's enraged state change to appear when Section E combined with Section A, many have thought that it was a permanent addition of the update (at the time) despite its existence being traced as far back as only a few weeks after the release of the Entity Extravaganza Part II update.
  • Due to being a failsafe entity, A-404 is not canon.
  • A-404’s docile sound has a slight Chorus effect to it.
  • A-404's voice is the RoboSoft One voice from the Online Microsoft Sam TTS Generator with pitch 150 and speed 130.[5]
  • A-404 is the only known entity to speak English in front of players.
    • Other entities have the power to speak, however, this is never referenced in-game except for A-404.
    • E-200 technically counts due to it's jumpscare saying "it's all just a dream"
  • Zvardin has stated that A-404's angered state will (very likely) never return in-game [6]
    • As of 28th October, 2023, A-404's angered state has returned in THE HISTORY.
    • In INTERMINABLE FEVER, A-404's angered state can spawn at the beginning.
  • A-404's Docile state has slightly smaller eyes than the Angered state A-404, although, one of A-404's docile faces also use the angered state too.
  • A-404 has the biggest particle aura in the game.
  • The angered ambience is its docile talking sound played at a speed rate of 0.25.
